Behinderte shoppen nicht - We don‘t shop!

Ich war wieder mal am Land unterwegs (also bei meinen Eltern) und habe mich gefragt ob die Leute wirklich glauben, dass „Behinderte“ nicht shoppen gehen?

Es war kurz vor den Weihnachtsfeiertagen und auch wir mussten dafür noch einiges einkaufen. Und irgendwie war jeder Behindertenparkplatz besetzt!
So viele Menschen mit Handicap hab ich aber am Land bisher nicht gekannt und deshalb mal gecheckt, ob sie einen Ausweis haben. Einer! hatte einen ..
Natürlich waren auch die anderen - also normalen - Parkplätze besetzt.

Das schlimmste: am Land wird das nicht so konsequent kontrolliert wie in der Stadt. Und das stört mich wirklich sehr. Denn es ist nicht egal, dass diese speziellen Parkplätze besetzt werden & das müsste viel öfter abgestraft werden finde ich.

Denn ja: auch „Behinderte“ gehen einkaufen ihr Lieben; wir sperren uns nicht zu Hause ein. Stellt euch vor: wir gehen sogar zu Veranstaltungen, Feiern und vieles mehr was man halt so macht.


I have been visiting my parents again. They don‘t live in a city like I do and I really asked myself if people here think, that disabled people don‘t shop?

Some days before christmas also we had to buy food but somehow almost every parking slot for disabled people was occupied. To be honest: I haven‘t seen so many disabled people in this „village“ until then. And so I thought I would check if they have a card in their car which shows, that they need this parking slot. One! had it in the car ..
Of course also most of the normal parking slots have been occupied.

The worst thing is: in most cities they do control if disabled people or non-disabled people do use these parking slots. In most „villages“ they don‘t. But no matter where you live: they should control it everywhere because disabled people do need these bigger parking slots.

I just want to add: YES also disabled people go shopping; they don‘t stay at home every time. The truth is: we go to parties and all that kind of things too.

Kostet nicht (immer) viel - It isn't (always) expensive

Ich war einkaufen - in einem Möbelgeschäft. Und danach wollte ich etwas trinken. Da das Wetter schön war, wollten wir auf der Terasse sitzen. Doch wir kamen da nicht hin - denn überall war eine Stufe. Und der Gehsteig war zwar zugänglich, aber leider zu eng um hier auf die Terasse zu gelangen.

Na gut, Frühstücken und etwas trinken wollte ich trotzdem. Dann habe ich mich eben rein gesetzt. Und die Kellnerin gefragt, ob sie denn eine Rampe haben. Sie hat gleich Nein gesagt und gemeint, sie müsste das dem Chef weiterleiten (fand ich super!). Ich hab dann gefragt, ob er denn nicht da sein. Sie sagte "Doch" und hat ihn geholt.
Der Herr war super nett. Ich habe ihm erklärt, dass man leider nicht auf die Terrasse kommt wenn man einen Rollstuhl nutzt und dass ich auch einen Lösungsvorschlag habe: nämlich eine mobile Rampe - die kann ja auch aus Holz sein.
Die Geschäftsleitung war sehr dankbar über den Hinweis, da er auch fand, dass die Terasse doch für alle zugänglich sein sollte. Und er hat gesagt, dass er gleich den Tischler anrufen würde der ja sowieso im Betrieb arbeitet.

Und der Tischler war noch während wir gefrühstückt haben da und hat mal alles abgemessen.
Dieser Betrieb ist wirklich vorbildlich!

Und ich denke ja, dass es auch immer darauf ankommt wie man als Mensch mit Behinderung den Betrieb darauf aufmerksam macht. Ob höflich oder gleich mit Drohungen ..
Wenn ich wieder mal vor Ort bin (in nächster Zeit sicher nicht) werde ich schauen, ob die Rampe dann schon fertig ist.

Außerdem muss Barrierefreiheit nicht immer viel kosten! Viele Dinge können mit einer mobilen Rampe super schnell gelöst werden.
Es muss nicht immer gleich ein Umbau stattfinden (darauf bestehen ja einige Menschen im Rollstuhl wenn sie auf nicht vorhandene Barrierefreiheit treffen); ich kann das nicht verstehen!

Übrigens wurden wir auf das leckere Frühstück auch noch eingeladen - damit hatte ich nicht gerechnet!
Ich finde es gut, wenn die Vorgesetzten von Geschäften so ein offenes Ohr für die Anliegen ihrer Kunden haben und auch gleich darauf reagieren.


I went shopping to a Furniture shop. And afterwards I wanted to drink something. Because the weather has been beautfiful I wanted to sit on the Terrace. But I could not get up there - there have been steps on each side. And the sidewalk has been accessible but too small for my Wheelchair (even though my Wheelchair is small compared to others).

I still wanted to have Breakfast and drink something so I sat down inside. And then I asked the Waitress if they have a ramp. She said No but she would pass this to her boss. Then I have asked her if he is her and she said Yes and asked him to come to me.
He was really nice and interested! I explained him that I could not get on the Terrace with my Wheelchair. And that I do have a solution: A mobile ramp which can also be made out of wood.
The boss was very grateful because he also wants his Furniture shop to be fully accessible. And he also said that he would call the Joiner immediatly - he is working for his Shop anyways.

The Joiner already came during I had my breakfast.
This Shop is a great Example!

And I also think that it depends on the people with a disability how the Shops handle Accessibility. If you are nice they will probably be nice to you; if you threaten them with all the Rules we have they won't be so nice.

As soon as I will be there again (this won't be soon) I will tell check if the Ramp is there already.

Moreover Accessibility isn't always expensive! A lot of things can be solved with mobile ramps.
Not everything has to be rebuild (even though some people with a Disability like to say so!).

By the way, the Shop payed our breakfast - I did not expect that!
I do think that it is great if Owners of a shop listen to the requests of their clients and try to react as soon as possible.

Primark

Hallo & Welcome back.

Ich war endlich mal in Innsbruck. Warum ist wahrscheinlich vielen die mir folgen klar: Chippendales! Dazu wird es aber einen gesonderten Blogpost geben - heute möchte ich über Primark schreiben.

Ich habe schon oft mit Freunden über Primark gesprochen. Viele von ihnen waren dort. Und wenn sie mir davon erzählten, hatte ich schon folgenden Gedanken: Ich möchte zwar hin, aber ich denke, dass mir dort übel werden wird.
Vor einigen Jahren ist mir das nämlich im Forever21 in Wien passiert. Ich war dort das erste Mal - die Gänge waren so eng und die Regale wo die Kleidung drauf/drin war so hoch - ich konnte einfach nicht vom einen Gang in den anderen sehen.

Und meine Freunde meinten, Primark wäre sehr ähnlich. Und überfüllt.
Nun ja, ich war mit E-Rollstuhl dort und kann das nicht bestätigen - Zum Glück! Als Studentin hat man ja auch nicht so viel Geld! Und da freut man sich schon, wenn man mal so günstig einkaufen kann.
Die Gänge waren super, die Regale auch nicht wirklich hoch. Und ich kam super zurecht.

Ja einige werden nun sagen, wie schlecht Primark doch ist und bla bla bla. Aber: alle anderen großen Kleidungsketten sind auch nicht besser - nur teurer! Und da glauben dann gleich alle, dass sie "fair produzierte" Ware kaufen - dem ist aber nicht so.
Ich hab bei Primark auch nicht nur Kleidung gekauft! Es gab auch ein paar Sachen für mein neues iPhone!



I've been in Innsbruck - finally. The most of you may know why: because of the Chippendales! But I'll write about that in another blogpost - today I would like to write about Primark.

I often have talked about Primark with my friends. Many of them have been in there already. And when they've told me about Primark I was thinking: I would love to go in there but I guess I will start to feel sick as soon as we are in there.
A few years ago that happened to me at Forever21 in Vienna. I've been there for the very first time - the courses have been super small and the shelves were so high that I could not see from one course to the other.

And my friends said that Primark is quite similar. And there are many people.
Well, I've been in there with my electronical wheelchair and I can not affirm this - Fortunately! As a student you also don't have a lot of money! And then you are quite happy if you can shop so low priced.
The courses have been big, and the shelves were not high at all. And I had no problems.

I know that some will be now telling me, how bad Primark is. But: all the other companies are not better at all - just more expensive! And then everyone is already thinking, that they buy "fair produced" products - but that's not the reality.
I also did not only but clothes - but also things for my new iPhone!

Was ich nicht tun mag - I don't want to ..

Jetzt seien wir uns mal ehrlich, es gibt Situationen im Leben, die man nicht noch einmal erleben möchte.
Für mich als Rollstuhlfahrer gibt es auch so etwas: das einkaufen von Lebensmitteln.

Warum? - Ich habe dabei schon einige negative Erfahrungen gemacht. Vor allem seid ich von zu Hause ausgezogen bin und immer wieder für mich einkaufen gehe - mit Unterstützung von meiner Assistenz oder von meiner Mutter.

Und da passierte es einmal, dass mir meine Mama geholfen hatte und ich bei der Wursttheke etwas bestellt hatte, meine Mama in der Zwischenzeit noch schnell was geholt hat und die Verkäuferin zu mir dann meinte: "Braucht deine Mama noch etwas?" - Ich dachte mir nur: "Nein verdammt, ich kaufe ja auch für mich ein und nicht für meine Mama!"

Oder es gab so Situationen, wo die Kassiererinnen das Wechselgeld automatisch meiner Assistentin zusteckten. Als ich dann einmal sagte: "Das können Sie auch mir geben" bekam ich folgende Antwort: "Du kannst das eh nicht halten."

Oder einmal, als ich hier in der Umgebung von der Uni einkaufen war und die Kassierin mir das Wechselgeld regelrecht in die Hand geworfen hat, mir die Hälfte runterfiel und sie sich nicht einmal entschuldigte!

Verstehst du nun, warum ich nicht gerne Lebensmittel einkaufen gehe?


Let's be honest, everyone has those situations you don't want to re-expierence.
For me as a wheelchair-user I don't like to do grocery shopping.

Why? - Because I had some negative experiences. Especially since I moved into the studentsdormitory. Since then I do grocery shopping with the help of my assistance or my mum.

And so it happened that once I've been waiting at the counter and my mum picked up something else. The seller handed my order to me and then asked: "Your mom needs anything else?" - I just thought "NO! I do grocery shopping for myself, not for my mum!"

Or there was a situation when the till girl handed the change automatically to my assistance. I then said "You can give me that too" - And she answerded "You can not even hold this in your hands."

The last situation I would like to tell you about happened to me close to the university. The till girl has actually thrown the change into my hands, everything fell down and she didn't even say sorry!
