Leben im Hotel - Living in a hotel

Hallo & Welcome back.

Ich hab in einen der letzten 3 Blogposts angedeutet, dass ich in einem Hotel lebe.
JA das tu ich auch wirklich.

Die Situation ist so: Bei meinem Studentenheim gibt es ein 9-Monats-Heim und ein 12-Monats-Heim. Leider gibt es im 12-Monats-Heim keine barrierefreien Zimmer und somit musste ich entweder zurück nach Hermagor oder mit dem Hotel im 9-Monats-Heim eine Lösung finden.
Wir haben eine Lösung gefunden (die ich nicht ganz fair finde) und somit wohne ich nun im Hotel.

1. Allein
Was ich am blödesten am Hotelleben finde ist, dass die Gemeinschaftsküche ganz mir gehört. Ich meine ja, jetzt ist sie immer sauber, aber es ist einfach total langweilig und ruhig dort. Mein Glück ist, dass ich so gut wie immer mit meinen Assistentinnen in der Küche bin und somit ist es dann auch nicht so leise

2. Staubsauger
Man hört jeden morgen mind. 10x den Staubsauger. Das ist echt ungewöhnlich, so wird während dem Semester nie geputzt. Und das traurigste ist: Mein Zimmer wird nicht von den Reinigungskräften geputzt :( das müssen noch immer meine Assistentinnen machen.

3. Wer bist du?
Das nächste ist, das man einfach niemanden kennt. Die Gäste kommen und gehen. Außerdem nervt es echt, dass manchmal bis spät in die Nacht laut gelacht wird und ich mich nicht einfach dazusetzen kann weil ich kenn die ja nicht!

Aber alles in allem bin ich froh, hier bleiben zu dürfen.
Ich habe meine Freunde in Klagenfurt und ich habe den See sozusagen vor meiner Haustüre. Ich möchte das im Moment nicht mehr missen.



If you've read one of my last blogpost you may have seen that I wrote something about the fact, that I am living in a hotel right now.
And YES I do so.

Here is a little explanation: In the students dormitory where I live in we have to parts. The 9-Months-part and the 12-Months-part. Since there are no barrier-freee rooms in the 12-Months-part I had to leave Klagenfurt during summertime or find a solution including the hotel. We found a solution (which I don't think of as really fair) and so I am living in a hotel right now.

1. Alone
The first crazy and weird thing is using a common kitchen all alone. I mean yeah, now it is clean but it is still a little bit scary sometimes when I am there in the morning to have breakfast. However most of the times when I go in the kitchen I have my assistance with me so I am never really alone.

2. Hoover
It is so crazy to hear the Hoover every morning at least 10 times. During the semester the house never gets cleaned like that. And it is a sad fact that my room doesn't get cleaned. I mean yeah, my assistance still cleans it for me.

3. Who are you?
It is kind of sad to have neighbours you don't know. I am not used to that anymore! And also I hear them listening to music until 2 o'clock in the morning and I can not just go there for partying with them.

All in all I am happy that I could stay here.
I have some of my friends here in Klagenfurt and the lake is, proverbial, in front of the house. I wouldn't want to miss that right now.

Barrierefrei ins Wasser - Swimming..with a wheelchair?

Ich habe mich endlich getraut. Ich war im Wörthersee.
Nach langem zögern, ob das mit dem Wasserrollstuhl denn funktionieren würde, war ich am Samstag das erste mal im Wörthersee.

Am Strandbad-Gelände gibt es zwar auch einen Lift ins Wasser, aber aus diversen Umständen kommt dieser für mich nicht in Frage. Da auch vielen anderen diese Umstände auf die Nerven gehen, hat sich das Strandbad etwas überlegt. Sie haben eine Rampe ins Wasser gebaut und sich einen Wasserrollstuhl angeschafft. Leider bin ich total unvorbereitet und habe keine Fotos. Aber wenn ihr mal bei Google "Wasserrollstuhl" eingibt, seht ihr diverse Ausführungen. Keine gleicht dieser vom Strandbad Klagenfurt aber sie kommen ihm sehr nahe.

Es erfordert auch keine große Übung von der Person, die einen begleitet.
Das einzige was notwendig ist ist, dass man ohne große Probleme umsitzen kann und sich auch selbst aufrecht halten kann. Natürlich helfen die Sanitäter oder die Wasserrettung, aber eigentlich sollte man das mit seiner Begleitung eigentlich fast allein schaffen. Das einzige was sie bei mir immer gemacht haben war, dass sie den Wasserrollstuhl gehalten haben da er keine Bremse hat und ansonsten beim Umsitzen wegrollen könnte.

Das Bild oben ist überigens schon vom Mai, da war beim See noch nicht so viel los.


It was time to go into the Wörthersee for some swimming.
Why I am telling you about it is easy to explain: I was a little scared as I have never been in the Wörthersee till Saturday and it is also not so easy for me to get into the water.

They have two different possibilities for handicapped people how to get into the water.
One is an elevator which I wouldn't use because of some people which chill by the lake close to this elevator. And a lot of people don't like to use it because of those guys around there.
So the boss decided to build a ramp into the water and buy a wheelchair which gets you into the water. It is called a WATER-WHEELCHAIR. If you google that you'll find a few different pictures, but none of those wheelchairs are as the one in my public bathing beach and as I wasn't prepaired to take a picture I don't have one.

It is not very hard to handle this wheelchair for the person who is driving with you.
But you have to do the transfer nearly on your own and you should be able to sit without any help.
Of course the guys there do help, but you shouldn't forget that the guys won't be in the water with you!

So the upper picture is from May when there were not so many people.
And the picture you see on the right side is from two days ago!

Eurokey?

Hallo & Welcome back.

Wenn du ebenfalls des öfteren öffentliche BehindertenWCs nutzt wird dir der oben genannte Begriff Eurokey bekannt vorkommen. Mit diesem lassen sich die meisten BehindertenWCs ohne Probleme öffnen und deshalb versuchen auch so viele wie möglich so ein Schloss in das BehindertenWC einzubauen damit es auch wirklich nur für das Reinigungspersonal und Menschen mit Behinderung zugänglich ist.

Wie ich jedoch letzte Woche Freitag erfahren musste, geht das ganze auch anders.
Die Seebühne in Klagenfurt wurde ja verkauft. Bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt gab es bei dem Cafè ein BehindertenWC welches mit dem Eurokey zugänglich war. Der neue Pächter dieses Cafès würde auch gerne wieder dieses WC für Beeinträchtigte zugänglich machen ABER die Stadt hat ihm einen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht. Von einem Tag auf den anderen wurde plötzlich das Schloss ausgetauscht. Weder er noch wir Menschen die dieses WC in den meisten Fällen dringend bräuchten kommen in die Toilette rein.

Als ich am Freitag nun vor der Toilette stand war ich einfach nur aufgewühlt und sauer. Ich habe natürlich sofort beim Magistrat angerufen - aber es war ja Freitag und die Menschen dort machen schon um 12:00 Feierabend - es war ja schließlich Freitag!
Ich habe denjenigen die ich trotzdem noch erreichen konnte erklärt, wie kontraproduktiv ihr Verhalten ist. Irgendwann werden wir in Klagenfurt einfach keine beeinträchtigten Touristen mehr haben wenn so gut wie nichts barrierefrei ist obwohl barrierefrei draufsteht.

Und auch die beeinträchtigten Bürger werden sich überlegen, ob sie bleiben wollen oder nicht.
Ich muss an dieser Stelle bemerken, dass ich mich in Klagenfurt richtig wohl fühle. Klagenfurt ist der Ort, wo ich mir eine Zukunft vorstellen könnte wenn ich in Österreich bleiben müsste. Aber eben nur EIGENTLICH. In Bezug auf Barrierefreiheit ist in dieser Stadt wirklich noch einiges zu tun.
Und da frage ich mich, warum man ein Schloss austauscht wenn es doch schon mit dem Eurokey-schloss ausgestattet war? Welchen Sinn ergibt das?

Ich werde am Montag wieder versuchen jemanden zu erreichen. So kann das nun einmal nicht funktionieren. Ich halte euch natürlich am laufenden - vielleicht auf meinem Blog, vielleicht aber auch über Facebook


If you live in Europe and have to use public barrier-free-toilets you may know the word "Eurokey". That's they key with which you can open most of these toilets.

However I had kind of a different experience last Friday. They sold a stage at the lake called the "Seebühne" where you could find also one of these toilets.
I really don't want to translate the whole story so long story short:
The toilet is still there but you can not open it anymore. Someone of the staff in Klagenfurt thought they could just change the eurokey into another one. 

Of course I tried to talk to someone who's responsible for that. But all of them started their weekends already as it was noon and Friday!
I was so angry and explained the men on the telephone that we're going to loose handicapped tourists if we act like that. And also citizens will think about staying here or not.

I have to add something.
I really love Klagenfurt and right now it is the only city were I could imagine living if I had to stay in Austria. (I hope I don't have to stay here). Klagenfurt is beautiful, especially if you live near the lake like I do. But they still have to change so much when it comes to barrier-free areas. Everything should be barrier-free! Even if something is old you can still put some staff there who help you!
But why did they even change the eurokey-lock into another one? I really don't get it.
