Erstmal barrierefrei - First of all: barrier-free

Anastasia Umrik von InkluWas hat es auf Facebook mal ganz gut beschrieben: Als Rollstuhlfahrer sucht man Arztpraxen nicht nach Qualität aus, sondern nach Barrierefreiheit. (leider finde ich den Post gerade nicht mehr)

Aber das betrifft leider nicht nur Arztpraxen.
Ein Beispiel aus meinem Alltag: Wenn Freunde mir von ihrem tollen Essen am Wochenende erzählen, wo sie überall waren, frage ich erstmal "und komm ich da mit dem Rollstuhl auch rein?" - dann folgt meist erstmal Stille.

Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich eine meiner Assistentinnen gefragt, wo sie denn zum Friseur geht. Sie hat es mir gesagt und geschwärmt, wie toll ihr Friseur doch sei und ich sollte ihn ausprobieren. Blöd nur, dass ich in dem Laden nicht einmal zu den Waschbecken kommen würde.

Ich - als kleines Landei - bin manchmal doch erschrocken, wie schwierig die Dinge hier in der Landeshauptstadt sind. Selbst neu eröffnete Geschäfte, Lokale & Co. sind - obwohl gerade heuer erst eröffnet - nicht oder nur teilweise barrierefrei.
Am Land habe ich - nur als Beispiel - eine barrierefreie Kosmetikerin. Schon lange. Hier in Klagenfurt finde ich einfach keine, die ich mir auch leisten könnte. Oder aber es führt kein Bus dort hin. Toll, nicht?

Ich muss - und ja das muss ich wirklich - jedes Mal bevor ich irgendwo hingehe wo ich noch nie war - erstmal herausfinden, ob es dort barrierefrei ist!


Anastasia Umrik is designing for InkluWas and blogging about her life with a wheelchair. And she once posted on Facebook: As a wheelchair-user you don't decide to go to a doctor because of his good quality, but because he/she has a barrier-free office.

But that doesn't apply only to doctors.
An example from my daily life: When friends tell me about their great dinner from the weekend and what they have visited I always ask "and can I get in there with the wheelchair too?" - then they often don't say anything anymore.

A few days ago my assistance told me about a great hairstylist. And she said I should go to him next time. BUT I can not even reach the sink with my wheelchair.

Me - a little girl from a little village - is sometimes shocked how non-barrier-free the things in this city sometimes are. Even shops, restaurants & much more which just opened their doors (in 2016) are not or only partly barrier-free.
In the village where I come from I do have - just for an example - a barrier-free cosmetician. Already since a very long time. But here in Klagenfurt I can't find anyone whom I can also pay. Or their office is so far away that I can not reach it with the bus. Great, right?

I have to admit - and yes I really do that - that I always have to check if something is barrier-free before I go there for the very first time!

Markentaschen - Handbags from brands

Hallo & Welcome back.

Ich möchte hier nicht angeben & das auch gleich klarstellen. Aber ich weiß, dass viele meiner LeserInnen - vor allem die weiblichen - sich für Handtaschen interessieren.
Ich persönlich bin ja eine Handtaschenfanatikerin. Schuhe hingegen interessieren mich so gut wie gar nicht.
Ich hatte schon immer viele Handtaschen.


Und davon sind einige auch Markentaschen.
Wie ich mir diese finanziert habe? - Einige wenige waren Geschenke, die anderen habe ich mir von meinem ersparten Geld selbst gekauft!

Außerdem besitze ich auch etwas teurere Brieftaschen, wobei eine schon weichen musste da ich sie einfach richtig aufgebraucht hatte.

I don't want to brag! But I do know that many of my followers are interested in handbags and so I wanted to write a blogpost about it. I am a real handbag-fan! But I am not really interested in shoes. However I always had a lot of handbags.

Barrierefrei Wohnen - Barrier-free living

Hallo & Welcome back.

Barrierefreies Wohnen ist nicht einfach. Nicht einfach zu finden. Aber ich habe es dann doch geschafft. Nach einigen Monaten und nur zwei Wohnungsbesichtigungen habe ich meine Wohnung gefunden.
Dort wohnen tu ich noch nicht. Warum? - Weil es noch nicht ganz barrierefrei ist (für mich) und noch nicht fertig eingerichtet ist.

An was ich alles denken muss:

• Haltegriffe
• Duschsitz
• Wie ich vom Bett aufkomme
• Wie ich mit dem großen Rollstuhl überall hinkomme
• Wie ich den Haupteingang auch selbst bewältigen kann
• Wer die ganzen Hilfsmittel bezahlen soll (ich bin auch nur Studentin!)
• Ob ich die Rollstühle überhaupt in der Wohnung nutzen darf (grundsätzlich sind Fahrzeuge in den Wohnungen ja nicht erlaubt)
• Und vieles mehr!

Meine nicht-behinderten Freunde - also die Fußgänger - sagen mir jedesmal: "Wenn ich bei meinem Umzug ebenfalls an so viele Dinge hätte denken müssen, wär ich wohl nie umgezogen!"
Tja, ich kann dazu nur sagen: Man ist eben auch am Wohnungsmarkt benachteiligt, wenn man eine Behinderung hat. UND: Man hat sicherlich höhere Ausgaben bzw. andere Ausgaben, die ein nicht-behinderter nicht hat.

Einfach so von heute auf morgen in eine neue Wohnung einziehen ist sowieso nicht möglich. Es erfordert viel Planung!
Und ich bin gerade in der Planungsphase. Sicherlich habe ich hier einige Punkte vergessen, aber in irgendeinem Blogpost zum Thema "Umzug trotz Behinderung" werde ich dann hoffentlich alle Dinge nennen können.

Vorerst wünsche ich euch eine schöne & stressfreie Woche (meine wird eher stressig).


Barrier-free living isn't easy. Not easy to find. But I've found an appartement anyways. After a few months and only visting two appartements I've found my appartement.
However I am still not living there. Why? - Because it still isn't fully barrier-free (for me) and furnished.

What I have to think of:

• Handholds
• A seat for my shower
• How I can get up from my bed
• How I can get everywhere with my biggest wheelchair
• How I can use (open) the main entrance without any help
• Who is paying all the additives (I am only a student!)
• If I am allowed to use the wheelchairs in my appartement (usually you are not allowed to use vehicles in an appartement)
• And much more!

My not-handicapped friends often tell me: "If I would have had to think about so many things I probably wouldn't have moved out!"
Yes, I have to admit that us - the people who have a disability - are even disadvantaged when it comes to find a barrier-free appartement. AND: you for sure have to spend more money on things others don't have to buy or even think of.

Just moving into a new appartement from one day to the other isn't possible. It needs a lot of planning!
And I actually in the planning-phase right now. However I do think I forgot some points, but I'll do another blogpost about all the stuff as soon as I moved.
