Einladung als Entschuldigung - Invitation

Vor einigen Wochen habe ich mich mal wieder gerne an das gute alte London zurückerinnert.

In London ist es in vielen Lokalen so, dass es auf Tischen ein Rollstuhlzeichen gibt. Und wenn man nun als Rollstuhlfahrer reinkommt, bittet ein Kellner die Leute die dort sitzen den Tisch zu wechseln.
Sehr nett muss ich sagen! Und wirklich vom Vorteil denn: als Rollstuhlfahrer kann man oft nicht jeden Tisch nutzen. Zum Beispiel hohe Tische nicht. Oder Tische die man nur über Stufen erreichen kann.

Und zack sind wir schon beim Thema angelangt!
Es war Faschingsamstag - Vormittag. Ok, kurz vor Mittag. Ich kam mir in dem Möbelgeschäft schon mal so vor als wär ich die einzige die schon bereit für den Faschingsumzug ist. Aber egal. Das spielt hier keine Rolle.
Wir haben das Restaurant des Möbelgeschäftes betreten und es war - wie zu erwarten - voll. Ein Tisch der stufenlos erreichbar war, war zwar frei, aber reserviert. Nun, es wären noch 3 weitere Tische frei gewesen. Aber: dafür hätte ich drei Stufen überwinden müssen. Unmöglich mit dem E-Rollstuhl!

Nun, meine Mama sprach eine Kellnerin an. Die zeigte wenig Interesse. Die Lösung wäre ja einfach: eine andere Familie hätte einen Platz einnehmen können der nur über Stufen erreichbar ist und wir dann deren Tisch.
Meine Mama ging also auf ein älteres Ehepaar zu. Die waren auch gewillt ihren Platz zu tauschen, hatten allerdings schon bestellt. Das heißt, eine Kellnerin hätte kommen müssen und das gemeinsam mit uns allen klären sollen. Aber es kam niemand.

Nachdem sich nebenan ein „Konkurrent“ befindet - ebenso Möbelgeschäft mit Restaurant - sind wir dann dahin gegangen.
Dort wurde auch schon eine Rampe gebaut damit man als Rollstuhlfahrer die Terrasse nutzen kann. Nachdem ich das vorgeschlagen hab.

Wie ihr es wahrscheinlich schon gedacht habt, habe ich mich auch beim Geschäft direkt beschwert. Meine Idee, zukünftig keine Stufen mehr einzubauen, wurde positiv angenommen. Die MitarbeiterInnen werden geschult damit so etwas nicht nochmal passiert und wir haben Essensgutscheine bekommen.
Also: wir werden wieder hingehen und ausprobieren, ob es nun besser funktioniert.



I love London. You probably know that. And I feel like London is very wheelchair-friendly! I also made the experience that they do have tables with a wheelchair-sign on them so that if someone with a wheelchair is coming to the restaurant the table has to be made free for handicapped people when there is sitting someone who is not disabled.
This is great because there are often tables which are too high for wheelchair-users or which are only reachable when you can get over stairs.

So we went to a furniture shop a few weeks ago. They also have a restaurant and we wanted to eat there. As always it was very full. There was only one free table left which was reachable without stairs. However, this table has been reserved. 
But there were three free tables left for which you would have to get over stairs. And that is impossible with my electronical wheelchair!

So my mum went to a waitress and asked for help. The solution was kinda easy: someone who was sitting "downstairs" could change the table to one of those "upstairs" and we could get their table. However, the waitress did not want to help!
We have found a family who would have changed their table with us, but they ordered already. So we would have needed a waitress again. But no one came to help.

So we decided to go to another furniture shop and eat there!
I also wrote a complaint to the other furniture shop. And I asked them if they could not build stairs anymore. 
They apologized and said, that they will talk to their staff. And as soon as they rebuild the restaurant they will get rid off the stairs. And: they gave us coupons!
So we will go there again and see how the waitresses act now.
